ACADEMIC CAREER

Currently Stefano Malatesta is Research Fellow at the ‘Riccardo Massa’ Department for Human Sciences and Education (University of Milano-Bicocca, Milano). He has a PhD in Cultural Studies from the University of Ferrara and an M.Sc. in Humanities and Geography from the University of Milan. He has been visiting researcher (Alumne Vinculat Postgrau) at the Department of Geography of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. As an M.Sc student he worked on flood hazard perception and as a PhD student he worked on the relationship between flood hazard and political landscape in case of pervasive flood risk.

He has carried out geographical research on different topics: Political Geography (e.g. on Borderscapes and Political Landscapes), Geographical Education (e.g. on Geographical Curriculum and Environmental Education) and Tourism Geography (e.g. on Ecotourism) .

As author or co-author Stefano Malatesta has published or presented over forty papers, chapters and essays and  is author of two books. He is member of the Referee Advisory Board of the ACME An International E-Journal for Critical Geographies, RIGEO and Scripta Nova. Furthermore he is member of the Editorial Board of Guerini Scientifica – Spazi.

He teaches “Cartography for Intercultural Research” at the ‘Riccardo Massa’ Department for Human Sciences and Education.

Currently he works mainly on Children’s Geographies,  Social Adjustment to Environmental Changes,  the political role of the Geographical Curriculum and on the methodological structures of Geographical Education within Primary School.
