ACADEMIC CAREER

He has spent his academic career in the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy in various positions, among
which President of the Degree Course in Geography (from 2002 to 2011). During his involvement in
the sector of the Didactics of Geography he was national adviser of the AIIG from 1991, to then
become its President in 2002. He has collaborated in projects and international initiatives: he was
member of the "International textbook research network", of the Georg-Eckert-Institut für
Internationale Schulbuchforschung. He is (or has been) a member of the Editorial Committee and/or
Scientific Committee of the magazines: geography of the EDIGEO; territorial documents; six-monthly
publication of Studies and Research in Geography by the University of Rome – Sapienza, Review of
International Geographical Education Online (RIGEO), Romanian Review of Geographical Education.
He founded (in 2005) and runs the Series Environment Society Territory, published by Carocci. He has
on more than one occasion acted as consultant for the Ministry of Education for the drafting of
national guidelines relative to Geography, from primary to secondary school. He is the scientific
referee of the University “La Sapienza” of the multi-disciplinary course of education for UNICEF
development. He is the author of over 200 publications (books, monographs, articles), as well as
numerous reviews, news features, congress reports, text books for the lower secondary school etc.
