ACADEMIC CAREER

Angelo Turco, geographer, is full professor since 1986. He has taught at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Milan,  the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Milan and at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of L'Aquila, He has held many educational activities abroad (conferences, lectures, seminars, PhD tutorials) at European, American and African Universities, and has been visiting professor at the University of Paris X, Pau and Grenoble (France).

In 1992 he founded the scientific journal "Terra d’Africa", which he ran until its termination in 2010 and, within the framework of an INTERREG project, the cartographical laboratory CARTOLAB at the University of L'Aquila, which he directed from 2004 until his transfer to the IULM. He is responsible for the co-operation agreements with European (François Rabelais, Tours), African (Abdou Moumouni, Niamey, Niger), and Latin American Universities (UFMG, Belo Horizonte, Brazil). International consultant for territorial planning, environmental governance, sustainable local development, participatory management of natural resources, particularly in Europe, Africa and in developing countries, with particular attention to cross-border areas.

MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS

Columnist and commentator on African politics, geopolitics and issues related to the environment, cultural heritage and landscape, sustainable development and  participatory processes, Angelo Turco is a specialist in studies on African territoriality particularly from the political, economic and cultural point of view, as well as in fields of research including  international cooperation and tourism. Among his latest books can be listed, Turismo & territorialità. Modelli di analisi e strategie comunicative e politiche pubbliche (2012), Poteri territoriali presso i Bofi della Lobaye (Repubblica Centrafricana) (2012); Paesaggio, luogo, ambiente.
